Isa City Mayor
Kinya Hashimoto
Located in the northernmost part of Kagoshima Prefecture, this city is surrounded by clear streams such as the first-class Kawauchi River, and has a beautiful natural landscape that retains the original landscape of Japan. The city has prospered by centering on agriculture, including rice cultivation and livestock raising and making use of the clear water, varying climate, and abundant forest resources, earning it the nickname "Kagoshima's Hokkaido."
In addition, a carpenter's scribbles from 1559, discovered at Koriyama Hachiman Shrine - a designated important cultural property of the country, included the word "shochu." This is said to be Japan's oldest surviving document with the word, and the Isa area has come to be known as the "Birthplace of Shochu."
Foreword
As you can see, there are many food cultures that are unique to this region, and all of them, such as shochu, Isa Rice, Black beef, Kurobuta Pork, and Kanayama green onions, are highly praised.
Among them, distilleries that have recently received the highest award, the "Governor's Award" at the Kagoshima Prefecture Shochu Contest, for two consecutive years, are attracting attention.
In addition, the city is proud of its stargazing, which has been ranked No. 1 in Japan five times in national star watching contests, and where you can fully enjoy the pristine nature.
In terms of culture, Isa is the hometown of significant figures such as Naoki Prize-winning writer and author of "Heaven and Earth" Chogoro Kaionji, author of the famous "Slam Dunk" Takehiko Inoue, and actor Takaaki Enoki.
I have set a large goal of making Isa the most attractive educational city in Japan by taking advantage of these characteristics, and am taking on the challenge every day.
For this reason, we sincerely welcome CAMPLIFIRE: ISA to our city, a camp based on the concept of ‘amplifying children's potential and igniting their hearts.’
We look forward to welcoming you and hope that you will have a wonderful experience while enjoying the land of Isa to the fullest for the children of the future.
Lastly, I would like to express my deepest thanks to all the staff who are organizing and managing this project, and to all the organizations involved.
